0f overloaded Lorrys & Blinding Lights

This post highlights some items which I feel can avoid some horrific accidents/deaths.
As usual this post is laden with ideas more for the Highway than Bangalore Traffic but still....;-)
I hope some sane soul from the RTO department reads these and implements them some day saving lives.

1. Overloaded Lorrys need to be checked & fined. Also barred from plying further until the overloading is reduced.

2. Blinding lights on Highways can cause virtual blind spot for drivers on the opposite lane.
this is a perennial problem even for people inside City traffic zones. This needs to be regulated by thorough surprise checks. A fine + a Blinder black spot on the head lamp could be applied on the spot.
LED lights which cause blindness need to be reported and the vehicle should be impounded. (where will the politicians go after this ;-) since its they who abuse the basic driving courtesies they ought to have for fellow motorists.)

3. Rear seat belt to be made mandatory for people plying on the National Highways.

4. Reflective stickers for illuminating the outlines of  motor vehicles.
So that the motorists from the opposite side can judge the outlines even on a highway.

5. Mandatory Florescent lined jackets for all highway drivers/motorists passing through Toll areas (since they might step on the gas on a well maintained road). This can be made mandatory along with the Insurance purchase/renewal of the Automobile.

spectacle !

Todays idea is to introduce a spectacle number or vision test checking for all motor vehicle riders/drivers every six months.
This would ensure that the people are themselves aware of their changing eye sight and also get awareness on how their driving will be impacted.

Granted that the idea itself will for sure generate lot of revenue for the opticians. But the benefits far outwiegh the nominal cost. to make this eyesight check scam free in these days of rampant corruption.

The Patients could be asked to read the days news on the screen at a distance. This way it will make sure that the patients don't practice the letters. Also the whole process could be computerized to avoid any malpractices and only authorized centres where in-video camera proceedings are done should be approved.

This should be started immediately where the Traffic density is too high. Ideally all Metros (Delhi, Bombay,Calcutta & Madras) can have these as a start and then it could introduced in Bangalore etc.
Well I would let the Traffic density decide the case.

https://www.gov.uk/driving-eyesight-rules lists some data which could be handy.

2nd Idea is to introduce the eye sight check whenever accidents happen. Was the driver/riding had a vision correction (spectacle) requirement and whether he was wearing any spectacles during the time.

This will regulate the chaos to a certain extent.

Ideas for Improving Bangalore & Traffic in india in general

Hi,
As a concerned Bangalorean I thought of starting a blog where I could write ideas which might be practical to improve Bangalore Traffic.
Without much Ado & to start with :

  • Petrol pumps are used by many to tresspass & circumvent traffic snarls at signals or junctions. Cameras should be installed at petrol pumps and offenders should be fined a considerable amount as they put lives of other road users at risk.
  • Bike & Car users not using both mirrors.
  • Merging into lanes forcibly creating a zipper effect. Such driving needs to be discouraged by installing cameras at junctions and making sure number plates of offending vehicles are captured.
  •  One idea would be to have a number on the top of the cars or side of the car as well so that Traffic cameras can pick up the numbers in the dense Bangalore traffic.
  • People involved in major accidents should be grounded from driving for at least 1 hour. Information on the drivers distance driven and Medical state should be recorded. Whether the person had consumed alcohol or had a health condition which impaired him from driving responsibly has to be recorded.

& one for the highway....

  • Blind spot mirrors to be made mandatory & installed in all cars by car manufacturers.
  • Government should ask Car manufacturers to not sell cars which have extreme low mileage (SUVs or any car for that matter). This decreases the drag on the fuel  consumption in the big picture.
  • Fuel consumption per person to be catalogued using Adhar card.
  • Trucks should be checked for possible Blind spots due to lack of strategically placed mirrors. Below image can give a fair idea of things to cover for the RTO person.
